Goodbye Mitzi we love you

How do you memorialize a friend that has been part of your life for over 5-1/2 years?  I can’t think of the “horses” without Mitzi coming to mind, so much a part of the place, so much a part of our lives.  Definitely one of my favorites if not my favorite, I have so much history and good memories of her.

Courtney named her, at first I thought “Mitzi” is that really a name for a horse but as time went by it seemed to fit her.  She was a gentle kind and loving friend. She was always one of the first to come see us if not the first. When she was just a couple of months old she started whinnying when we drove up and by far the cutest whinny of all the foals.

When I was pregnant Jim said “Mama your little horse misses you and doesn’t understand why you don’t come see her”. I didn’t get out there as often going through invitro and a high risk pregnancy.  After Mary was born the challenges of a newborn, breastfeeding, laundry and a full time job sometime seemed insurmountable. In my heart I knew my friend would wait for me.  The first time I went out there with Mary she gave both of us a big sniff and looked at me like “now I know where you have been”! Mary and Mitzi also bonded. Mitzi was one of the first she wanted to pet and she could even say her name.

The effect she had on Courtney’s life was probably the greatest. Courtney had always been nervous riding horses. While Jim worked on breaking Spirit Courtney worked on overcoming her own fears and breaking Mitzi.  Mitzi seemed to understand and would never hurt Courtney.

No tribute to Mitzi would be complete without talking about her lifelong friend who will miss her possibly more than any of us. For over 5 years now those two have been inseparable. Even though they are very different they are like “peas and carrots”. Some of our best memories include the two of them and their crazy antics.

She changed all of our lives and will never be forgotten goodbye Mitzi we love you.

Wow, I didn't realize it was Mitzi. I haven't talked to any of you since it happened. I did hear something had happened to one of your horses, while I was in St Louis working. I just got home and this is the first of your blogs I have read to catch up. It made me cry to read this. I love you all and Mitzi was special.

I'm so sorry about Mitzi. I know how hard it is to lose an animal you love so much in such a senseless act. My thoughts have been with you! Love ya.
