Goodbye to a good man

Grandpa Damato passed away yesterday morning. He was nearly 88 years old and spent the last 8 years missing my grandmother. He has been in Denver with my Mom since April and quite honestly there probably isn’t anyone he would have rather spent the time with. There really isn’t enough I can say about him, words seem empty compared to the person he was. He was a wonderful grandparent he and Grandma spent as much time with us and they could while we were growing up even though we were close to 1,000 miles away. We talked to them on the phone often and they seemed to be part of our daily lives even though they weren’t there.

He served his country, was devoted to his family and had an especially close bond with my mom. I can’t imagine her sadness in now losing both of her parents but I guess it’s a reality we will all have to face. His death closes a chapter in my life. I will no longer have a reason to go to Chicago. The house that has been in our family since the 1930’s will be sold. Things that were a part of their lives for all that time will be gone maybe belong to someone else. I know he is in a better place. Please pray for my mom.

Papa Eddie and I enjoyed your Grandparents when they came to Phoenix and visited with us. Our hearts go out to you all, and our prayers are with you. I know your Grandpa was very special to you and will be missed. Love you.
