30 years ago today...

In an attempt to get Mary to sleep last night I put in the Elvis 68 comeback special DVD. Dad frequently put Elvis on for us during nap time so I thought I would give it a try. It amazed me how good Elvis looked. No one would have ever guessed he would be dead in less than 10 years. Courtney made the comment “Man he is hot” which was kind of weird to me. When I was a little girl I wanted to grow up and marry Elvis which is also kind of weird since he is older than my Dad I guess it was that prince charming thing.

I can’t believe it has been 30 years (today) since Elvis died. When I heard the news I was at a friend’s house, I remember peddling my bicycle as fast as I could to get home to ask Mom if it was really true. That was really my first experience with death. It was more frightening to me that he died at 42 I couldn’t help but worry could that happen to my Dad? I am happy to say good old Dad is alive and kicking and frequently leaves comments here - although I do worry what he is going to say.

We went to Graceland in 2003. I am a little concerned the new owners are going to take away some of the history and make it too commercialized. I am glad I saw it when I did. The funny thing is that it is decorated like our house in Northglenn in the 70’s even had carpet on the wall!

As far as Mary sleeping - the Elvis DVD worked she fell asleep in about 10 minutes but woke up within 2 minutes of being in the crib. So I rocked her again and put her in bed with me and finished watching Elvis in there. Jim comes home tonight so there is no way she will be sleeping in the crib!

I remember also the day Elvis died and how crushed you were. You and your Dad had that love for Elvis in common. I don't know who was more upset. We did have that Elvis decorating touch in our house, flocked wallpaper & those mirrors with the smoky veins. The 70's were very interesting .

Maybe you should have one of those DVD Players that they install in cars installed in Mary's crib. She could then watch Elvis as she falls asleep. If that doesn't work I could build a fish tank into the footboard of her crib. As a last resort a mini bar would be a sure thing. Remember the one you built in your pillow case.
